Bring
"Baseball to Siberia"

During our trip to
Abakan during June 2007, we held an event called
"Bring Baseball to Siberia". With the help of local firefighters and teachers, we
conducted a clinic and had two fun games with
the boys and girls from the Yoletchka Children's Home.
Prior to our arrival in
Abakan, a shipment of balls, bats, uniforms,
and other
necessary
equipment arrived at the orphanage. This was made possible by the generous
donation of an anonymous baseball fan, and items collected by the Brookfield
Recycling Center. A translated version of the rules,
etiquette, and history of the game (provided by Top
Shelf Collectibles) had been sent ahead of time to help them
prepare for the event. During the games that we played, the kids enjoyed a positive, fun experience as we
taught them this "Great American Pastime".
Special Thanks to Talbot Embroidery,
Southbridge, MA for donating the embroidery and silk screening for the uniforms.
